Leo George Bodnar, WWII Navy Veteran, of Brookfield, passed away November 21, 2018 at the age of 97. “George” was born February 21, 1921 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Louis and Pauline (Cvicek) Bodnar. He married Irene C. Kardos on July 15, 1944. She preceded him in death on September 8, 1986. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Edward and Donald, his son, Glenn Bodnar, and his son-in-law, Dave McIntire. Survivors include his loving son and daughters: Jan (Ralph) Bone, Ron Bodnar, Karen Bodnar and Pam McIntire; grandchildren Ryan (Jenni) McIntire and Matt (Niki) McIntire; great-grandchildren Landon, Audrey and Chloe McIntire; long-time loving companion Barbara Szybowicz; brother-in-law Harley Higgins and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank his neighbors on 27th Street, Brookfield, for their generous support and assistance during the last few years of their father’s life. After retiring from the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, George began his second career as a 25+ year volunteer at the Helping Hand Thrift Shop in Brookfield, where he was known for his ability to repair watches, clocks and everything mechanical. Later, he volunteered at the Community Shop in LaGrange, benefiting the Community Nurse Health Center. Visitation Tuesday, November 27, 10:00am-1:00pm at Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home 2447 S. DesPlaines Avenue, North Riverside. Chapel Service 1:00pm. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Helping Hand Center in Countryside, the Pillars Community Health in LaGrange, Catholic Charities or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
